Richard Turner was an English mathematician, author, and clergyman. After graduating from Oxford, Turner worked as a clergyman in various capacities throughout his life while also studying and writing on mathematics, astronomy, and geography. Turner’s books, such as this one, include a variety of image types, from line-based diagrams to fully-illustrated depictions of scientific instruments in use in academic and domestic environments. This book also includes an extensive section on geography that contains elaborate and accurate maps that will ultimately make young men and women more “serviceable to the [British] Empire.”
