Abstract
The purpose of Grant # DE-FG03 98ER62674, Project # 55800112 was to continue a previously funded effort and make a statistical comparison of the respective toxicities of 226Ra vs. 239Pu in dogs. Special emphasis was on the induction of bone tumors that result from the alpha-radiation emitted from either radionuclide. With the support provided, we have completed the statistical analysis of 226Ra and have established a sound basis for the analysis of the corresponding 239Pu data and for the comparison of these 2 nuclides. The analysis of the Ra project is the cornerstone for a determination of the Pu toxicity, as this will provide the link between animal experiments and existing human data.
