Abstract

Holography is act of capturing light field information using complex interference patterns of coherent light sources. This study explored production techniques of both analog and digital holography and the the applications of each. Holography plays an important role in industry with applications that extend from credit card security and multimedia to early cell death detection using digital holographic microscopy.

With analog transmission holography, this study led to a better understanding of the differences in application of off-axis and on-axis analog construction, as well as a better understanding of the limitations of light field capture in holographic plates. Using computer programming and a CCD sensor, the experiments explored the process and functionality of creating digital holograms. The main goal was the creation of an amateur digital holography setup enabling the creation of 3-dimensional images of objects for study and comparison.
