Abstract: Librarians sure do love their toolkits—but what happens when the tools we use reinforce systems of discrimination and exclusion? The Research Impact Fluxkit is a playful and interactive interpretation of the library toolkit intended to spark discussion about how we assess the impact of our research. 5. Presentation Summary: The purpose of the Research Impact Fluxkit is to playfully evoke discussion about how we measure the impact of research, create a space where we can talk about how the current norms for assessing research reinforce discrimination in higher education, and discover new ways to think about what it means for research to have an impact. The Fluxkit is intended to serve as an icebreaker at proposed future workshops on research assessment and impact for pre-tenure faculty. The presentation will begin with a short introduction of the project and what inspired it. The introduction will be followed by a video of a person interacting with the Research Impact Fluxkit. The video will depict a person opening the toolbox, removing the items one by one, and exploring each item in close-up for the benefit of the viewer. The video will not offer commentary or tell the viewer what they should think about each item that is presented to them—instead, viewers will be encouraged to form their own thoughts and questions about research assessment and impact in response to the Research Impact Fluxkit, just as they would if they were handling the items themselves. The estimated length of the presentation is 10 minutes. 6.
