Abstract

An investigation of the economic relationships of treehoppers in Utah orchards, as reported in this paper, began in the summer of 1923 and has continued, from time to time, to the present. During the years 1922 to 1925, inclusive,* tree-hopper damage in the orchards of Utah County came to the attention of the writer so frequently and in such a manner that it appeared to be a problem of considerable economic importance. Because of this latter consideration, a study of the situation in Utah was begun. This investigation has included a study of: (1) the occurrence of damage; (2) degree of damage; (3) treehopper species found in Utah; (4) species responsible for damage; (5) their distribution, description, and life history, and (6) methods of control.
