Abstract
Strawberries In Utah have for many years suffered serious injury fron the larvae of root-infesting snout beetles. Injury caused by the two species, commonly called the strawberry root weevil, Brachyrhinus ovetus (Linne) and the rough strawberry root weevil, B. rugosostriatus (Goeze), is very similar, except that individuals of the latter and larger species consume more food and therefore cause more damage to infested plants for a given population. A third species, B. sulcatus (Fabr.), which is larger and more destructive then the others, has recently appeared in a few fields in Cache County. Beesune of the serious injury caused by these pests and the need for better control, this study was undertaken. Detailed life history studies and replicated control experiments were carried on in Cache County, Utah, during the seasons of 1939 and 2040. In addition, three surveys were made covering other important strawberry growing areas of northern utah.
