Abstract

Bracon lissogaster Muesebeck, a new parasite of the wheat stem sawfly, Cephus cinctus Norton, was first reared by the author from sawfly larvae at Choteau, Montana, during the summer of 1950. A comparison with known parasites of this host indicated it to be different than any parasite recorded in the literature. This parasite was studied by Mr. C. F. W. Muesebeck, In Charge, Division of Insect Identification, Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine, Washington, D. C., who is the leading specialist of this group. He reported this parasite as being an undescribed species. The purpose of this study is to give a description of the insect, its biology, parasitic habits, and its potentiality as a parasite of the sawfly.
