Abstract
Bovine coccidiosis is an infectious disease, commonly called bloody scours or red diarrhea, that sometimes causes heavy losses among calves. It is of great economic importance in many parts of the world, including the United States. An economic loss of an estimated 10 million dollars occurs annually in the United States as a result of bovine coccidiosis.(2) It is known that Eimeria zurnii Rivolta, 1878, is one of the 2 most pathogenic species of coccidia in cattle. At present little information is available on this species. Further information concerning E. zurnii would be of value in establishing sound prophylactic measures and in developing improved methods of treatment.
