Abstract

Coccidiosis has proven to be one of the more important parasitic infections found in cattle. This disease is caused by members of the genus Eimeria, of which there are ten or more species in cattle. Experimental work has shown that two of these, E. bovis and E. zurnii are the principle pathogens (20). Coccidiosis causes such an economic loss (estimated at $10,000,000 annually) to the cattle industry (13) that numerous investigators have studied the disease. The disease is more common in younger than older bovines.
