Abstract

In 1919 a number of wheat crosses were made at the Utah Experiment Station by Professor George Stevart, the purpose being to develop a superior strain of wheat for the intermountain region and to provide material for various genetic studies in wheat. While the data presented in this thesis are the results of genetic studies of the F3 and F4 generations of the Sevier X Dicklow grain crosses, mention is also made of several homozygous strains which as a result of this study are now being grown in yield tests and give promise of being superior to either parent or any of the local varieties. Before the data obtained with these crosses are presented a short history and description of each parent, followed by a brief review of the literature concerning the Inheritance of (1) awns, (2) awn color, (3) chaff color, (4) kernel color and (5) headshape will be given.
