Abstract

As yet no thorough studies of the trichomonads living in the cecum of swine have been made. In fresh preparations the trichomonads from the nose, stomach, and cecum appear distinct. After a period of cultivation In an artificial medium, however, the flagellates from the cecum became morphologically similar to the cultured porcine nasal and stomach trichomonads. The cultivation of the trichomonads from the cecum apparently results in either a morphological change in the trichomonad or in a selection among different species or types present in the cecum.
