Abstract
There have been several surveys made throughout the State of Utah that indicate the presence of staphylococcal synovitis in many of the turkey flocks. Bagley (1949) and Blommer (1950) indicated that from 1947 to 1949, there was a widespread occurrence of the disease throughout the State. Dr. M. L. Miner (1960), Head of the Department of Veterinary Science (Utah State University), indicated that staphylococcal synovitis in turkeys has actually been continuous in Utah since the late nineteen-"thirties." Staphylococcus aureus was found by Prahl (1891) to be the etiologic agent of this synovitis in geese. Synovitis may occur in many other fowl also.
