Abstract

The industrialization of the Intermountain West has brought with it the by products of industry. Of these by products, fluoride is of particular interest and importance, because of its toxicity to both plants and animals at low concentrations. There is a wide range of variation in susceptibility of different plants, but gladiolus, prune, apricot, and peach among others are very sensitive to fluoride in concentrations as low as 0.02 to 0.05 ppb (Katz, 1956).
