Abstract
Melanotic tumor formation and failure of pupation have been reported in a tumorous head stock of Drosophila melanogaster. The lethal effect has been correlated with stretching of the salivary gland chromosomes near the chromocenter and changes in the puffing patterns of the chromosomes (Rodman, 1963, 1964). The genetic basis of this phenomenon has not been elucidated however.
