Abstract

Laboratory rearing of economically important insects such as the mountain pine beetle, Dendroctonus ponderosae Hopkins, is important. Both basic and applied laboratory research depend on a readily available source of insects. This need is most easily met by laboratory insect colonies which can be maintained and drawn upon for the entire year.
