Abstract

The alfalfa seed chalcid has been recognized as an important pest of alfalfa seed since 1891 (Urbahns, 1920). Heavy concentrations of seed chalcid in the alfalfa seed producing regions of the western United States pose a serious threat to the production of alfalfa seed. Experiments designed to study bionomics and plant resistance of this pest are part of a regional project at the Experiment Stations of many western universities. Several states and workers are testing a number of chemicals for possible use in controlling the alfalfa seed chalcid.
