Abraham de Graaf was a Dutch mathematician who focused his work on applying traditional mathematics to practical situations. Throughout his book, de Graff incorporates a variety of images designed to align his writing with its educational purpose. The book includes many fold-out pages that give demonstrations on how to apply the math to real-work situations. Additionally, the frontispiece of the book combines art, mythology, and mathematics to create visual interest in the subject matter and align the book with a larger cultural interest in the arts.
