Abstract
Rehabilitation counselor supervisors are charged with the direct provision of clinical and administrative supervision within their respective settings. While administrative supervision currently serves as the primary supervisor responsibility, rehabilitation counselor supervisors are faced with multiple challenges (e.g., changing counselor demographics, demand for innovative service delivery) that influence the application of supervision. These changes necessitate the movement from transactional leadership to one of transformational leadership. This paper compares and contrasts administrative and clinical supervision with transactional and transformational leadership. The implications of transitioning from transactional leadership to transformational leadership are explored. Recommendations for rehabilitation counselor supervisors to shift towards transformational leadership are provided.
