Abstract

This paper discusses three important resource issues in the American West. These issues relate to (i) land use over time, in the face of potential irreversibilities and new information acquisition by land managers; (ii) mechanisms for appropriately addressing questions of wilde mess designation and habitat preservation; and (iii) the design of apposite management institutions.
