Abstract

Certain mammalian species have been shown to secrete extra-pituitary gonadotropins. In humans the chorionic cells of the placenta secrete a gonadotropin and in pregnant mares such a hormone is secreted by the endometrial cups. Gonadotropins of placental origin have also been observed in the rat.
