Abstract

Why Neptune?

Neptune hosts one of the most dynamic weather systems in the solar system, yet it hasn't been closely observed since the Voyager-2 flyby. Existing observing programs [1,2] are too infrequent to capture the day-to-week timescales on which storms and clouds evolve, but a dedicated CubeSat could fill this gap.

The current project has two goals:

  1. Explore the photometric precisions achievable by a CubeSat platform
  2. Determine whether the presence of clouds will be detectable by a CubeSat platform
