Atmospheric Emission in the Long Wave Infrared Region

Location

Start Date

Description

Atmospheric emission spectra have been obtained with a Michelson Long Wave Infrared (L WIR) spectrometer at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, and in Barrow, Alaska. Spectra were collected year-round at the South Pole in 1998. Spectra measured in Barrow began in March 1999 and continues to the present. This research will focus on the water emission lines in the 250-800 wavenumber resolution. These water lines will be modeled using the LBLRTM software, NMC temperature and pressure profiles, and measured water profiles from Barrow to produce calculated spectra. These calculated spectra will then be compared to measured spectra from Barrow and the South Pole.
