Abstract

Administered questionnaires to 1,063 parents, 145 teachers, and 35 principals to determine their views on elementary school retention. Results of the present study show strong support for school retention, and indicate that research findings showing the ineffectiveness of repeating a grade are not well known. It is suggested that the manners by which the academic skills of children can be improved and failure ultimately prevented should be researched.
