Abstract
In this video I'll continue teaching you about amine chemistry, including more about various nitrogen heterocycles, including pyridine, pyrrole, porphyrin rings, hemoglobin, quinoline, and various other alkaloids (which include atropine, ephedrine, and reserpine). I also discuss the purines and pyrimidines, and the nucleotide bases and DNA structure. I briefly address conjugate addition of amines into unsaturated carbonyl compounds, as well as pyridine substitution. Many thanks to the DNA Learning Center for use of their highly awesome educational video on chromatin structure (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kQpYdCnU14). I also provide some silly ways of remembering the structures and names of the purines and pyrimidines. --Dr. Mike Christiansen from Utah State University.
