Abstract

The CrIS (Cross-track Infrared Sounder) sensor is an infrared Fourier transform spectrometer used to make weather and climate sounding measurements. Launched in 2011, the CrIS sensor is flying on the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (NPP) spacecraft. A second CrIS sensor (J1 CrIS) has just completed thermal vacuum testing and is planned to be launch in 2017. Over the past year, the NPP CrIS was reconfigured to be able to transfer all collected data to the ground, thus enhancing its spectral resolution in two (SW and MW) of its three bands. The increased data rate referred to as full resolution data provides 0.625cm-1 spectral sampling in all three CrIS bands. SDL continues to monitor CrIS noise performance and responsivity trends of both CrIS sensors. This paper will present noise trending and characterization of the NPP CrIS as well as the follow-on J1 CrIS. Algorithms used to derive the CrIS noise trends will be presented as well as current results for long-term trending.
