Service-learning has proven to be a valuable tool in education. Through service-learning, students are able to learn the necessary information, apply core concepts, and engage a community in discussion. The presenter will review a final service-learning project utilized in an undergraduate Addictions and the Family course. Groups of students were required to identify a problem in our community associated with addictions, produce a five-minute YouTube video, then present and discuss their topic a community group. In this session you will learn 1) key aspects of service-learning 2) how to engage your class in service-learning opportunities and 3) how to apply service learning to your classroom setting through an example of service-learning.
