As an Engineer, we must always ask why before we analyse how we do something. What is the purpose of what we are constructing? While both aspects represent significant challenges through the design and construction of a project, questioning the purpose of a system should be to the forefront of any Engineers mind.
The focus of this talk will be on how the understanding of hydraulics can affect design and construction of major civil infrastructure projects. How we manipulate water and flows through our infrastructure and control can lead to significant savings and risk management during construction, particularly the civil construction elements.
Multiple case studies will be discussed through this talk from projects in the UK and Ireland and how even a basic understanding of hydraulics can lead to efficient and safe systems of works being developed.
