Abstract
In keeping with the tone of these volumes on plant physiological ecology, in this chapter the ecological context of plant response to solar UV radiation will be emphasized rather than UV photophysiology. Several recent reviews can be consulted for more information on physiological mechanisms (Jagger 1976; Wellman 1976; Thomas 1977; Fraikin and Rubin 1979). A review of Klein (1978) is particularly comprehensive.
