Description

A research article, published in the September 2016 issue of the Journal of the Association for Information Systems, investigates how organizations pursuing different business strategies can generate performance gains from information technology (IT). The study, co-authored with Paul Tallon (Loyola University Maryland), Tim Coltman (University of Wollongong), and Rajeev Sharma (University of Technology Sydney), finds that traditional approaches for assessing the alignment between IT and business strategy are unable to explain how IT is used to drive new strategies and create future business benefits. The study develops a new approach for measuring the strategic alignment of IT and shows how it can be used to assist IT managers in better understanding and quantifying the business impact of IT.
