Point of Discovery/Informant Bio
Alisa Monson is my mother. After raising 4 children, she decided that she wanted to finish her bachelor’s degree online. She graduated last year from BYU Idaho. Alisa had never held a job in my lifetime, so when she took a job as a receptionist, my whole family was shocked.
Context
Alisa worked as a receptionist in the Copper Hills High School attendance office in West Jordan, UT. She and most of her co-workers were mothers and worked there primarily for the social aspect, rather than for need of money. She worked this job for about 8 months before becoming an online teacher for BYU Pathways. She sent me this story after I sent a message to my whole family asking for submissions.
Texture
At first, Alisa was hesitant to tell me this story because it wasn’t a “mean” prank. However, when I told her she didn’t have to be sending me “mean” pranks she got excited and immediately sent me this story.
