Abstract
This paper presents a review of the herbivorous fauna that prevailed in, and influenced, the California grassland during its formation, during its existence in prehistory, and during the changes it has undergone since arrival of the Europeans. Accordingly, I have adopted a chronological format in reviewing the available information.
