Description
Portrait of Ammarita Sorenson. Sorenson is an economics major, who has done a plethora of research during her time at Utah State University. One of her projects was developing information related to diabetic retinopathy, which is a leading cause for blindness for working-age adults. Previous research focused on two specific factors—hyperglycemic and hyperlipidemic—but Sorenson's research contributed a connection between these factors and UVA light interacting with the retina. Working under a graduate student, their goal is to find additional therapeutic targets to prevent or mitigate the harm of diabetic retinopathy.
