Abstract
The Rocky Mountain aspen forest cover type occupies about 4 million acres (l.6 million ha) of commercial forest land in eight Rocky Mountain States (7). Colorado and Utah, which contain 2.3 and l.1 million acres (0.9 and 0.4 million ha), respectively, account for the majority of this acreage. These lands comprise 25 percent of the total commercial forest land in Colorado and 31 percent in Utah.
