Abstract
A linear regression technique is presented that, based on averaged stand characteristics, predicts the combined loading of leaf and herbaceous litter and one hour timelag woody fuels in aspen-northern hardwood stands (R² = 0.959). Observed and predicted fuel loadings ranged from 3,676 and 3,841 kilograms/hectare to 6,236 and 6,228 kilograms/hectare. All necessary inputs (basal areas, densities, and importance values) can be easily obtained with an angle gauge, a diameter tape, and a calculator. Forest Sci. 28:177-180.
