Abstract
Cuttings of larch, elm, maple and aspen were continuously fumigated with low SO2 concentrations for several winter months. Before bud break they were transferred into pure air. In the subsequent developing foliage (4 weeks old) S content and peroxidase activity were determined. Some species showed distinct direct S uptake from the air (no S accumulation in soil solution detectable). No increase in peroxidase activity, which would have suggested stress, was found in any species.
