Abstract
Observations for 24 years following weeding in a 7-year-old paper birch-quaking aspen (Betula papyrifera Marsh., Populus tremuloides Michx.) stand of fire origin indicate the necessity of removing aspen to assure a high proportion of birch. The untreated control plot contains an essentially pure aspen stand, while released plots are dominated by paper birch as large as 10 inches in d.b.h.
