Abstract
Quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx.) occupies an extensive range throughout the northeastern United States, Canada, and the Rocky Mountains. Logging and subsequent burning have produced conditions favorable to growth of aspen seeds and sprouts, and as a result, almost pure aspen forests have become established in many areas. Although short lived, aspen grows rapidly and has become a major pulpwood species in the Northeast and Lake States.
