Abstract
Root carbohydrate reserves (soluble sugars plus starch) in quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx.) increased more than 5 percent from June to September in one growing season. Starch was approximately four times more abundant than soluble sugar. Root cuttings from clones having small yearly diameter growth produced the fewest suckers. Roots collected in midsummer had the least sucker production. Suckers from root cuttings collected in the late summer failed to develop independent root systems. Forest Sci. 16:318-320.
