Abstract
Six Populus tremuloides (quaking aspen) trees were felled in June, 1965, and developing xylem was collected by previously established methods at four stages of growth: soft xylem - the youngest, stringy xylem, new xylem, and one-year-old xylem. Upon collection, the year-old and new xylems were airdried and the stringy and soft xylems were frozen; the latter were subsequently freeze-dried.
