Abstract
Stem sections from fast and slow-growing Populus tremuloides Michx. trees were used to determine the rate of callus production. A positive correlation between the rate of callus production in vitro and the rate of tree growth under natural conditions was observed. A method for the use of callus growth in the prediction of potential tree growth was outlined.
