Abstract

This study was designed to investigate various methods of increasing the sprouting acreage of better clones of Populus grandidentata Michaux, at the time of a regeneration clearcut. Four cutting treatments were replicated three times by splitting each clone into halves and assigning one treatment to a half in such a manner that each treatment was paired with each of the other treatments. Four years following the regeneration cut survival in the partial cut areas was less than on clearcut areas. A wide variation was noted in the suckering ability of the six clones which was independent of the cutting treatments used.
