Abstract
A survey of aspen cankers on 31 plots (four 1/10-acre sub-plots each) was conducted in five National Forests of Colorado. Sooty-cark canker was found on 94% of the plots, 2% of the living trees, and on 51% of the dead trees. This canker is considered the most damaging because it tends to occur on the larger trees on all sites, and is capable of girdling a tree within 4 or 5 years.
