Abstract
Immature mixed wood stands containing white spruce (Picea glauca Moench, Voss.) occupy large areas of the B.18a Forest Section (Rowe 1959). Unfortunately they are not favourable for development of the invariably overtopped spruce which often suffers severe suppression due to competition and mechanical injury from the hardwood overstory, mainly aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx.).
