Abstract
Clones of aspen stems develop as suckers from the roots of the previous stand of aspen trees. Due to this origin, the stems in the clone are, at least in part, interconnected via the parent root system. A measure of the physiologic importance of these roots to the sucker stems that develop on them has been lacking. This project was conducted to clarify and evaluate the physiological importance of these parent root systems.
