Abstract
This report is a summary of all studies carried out by the Saskatchewan Forestry Branch in hardwood stands. Aspen, the principal component of the hardwood stands, is the most abundant tree species by both volume and area in Saskatchewan and is most difficult to analyze. This report presents conclusions from which further studies can be conducted. It is hoped that in the future closer correlation with site-types may be made as it is difficult and probably not desirable to make further generalization on a province-wide basis. However, before detailed questions could be studies it was necessary to have a picture of the range of conditions found in the aspen stands of this province.
