Abstract
This test of release cutting in the Lake States showed a marked advantage in cutting aspen suckers and sprouts in late June or just after the leaves had attained full growth. The effective period continued to early August. Cuttings made in winter or early spring when the trees were dormant were much less efficacious. Release costs could be greatly reduced merely by concentrating such work in conifer plantations at the time when it is most effective.
