Abstract

A method of determining sex and age in dusky blue grouse (Dendragapus obscurus obscurus) from wing length measurements and plumage characteristics is described. Measurements from 2,286 hunter-harvested birds were used to develop a key which permits accurate classification by sex and age from wings alone. Indicated accuracy of the key was approximately 97 percent.
