Abstract
Data on the number of ovarioles and the number and size of mature oocytes are presented for 37 species in 20 genera and 13 tribes of cleptoparasitic bees that have been assigned to the subfamily Nomadinae. Novel structures, here called glandular pouches, which have previously been confused with the venom gland reservoir or Dufour's gland, are described and illustrated. Glandular pouches and five or more ovarioles per ovary appear to be apomorphic character states, and occur in all tribes examined except Isepeolini, Osirini, and Protepeolini. The phylogenetic implications of these findings are discussed.
