Abstract
Kinship theory and sex ratio theory were used by Trivers and Hare to predict the relative investments in reporductive males and females by various eusocial insects and their nonsocial relatives. They suggested that in eusocial species with haplodiploid sex determination, queens gain by a 1:1 (male:female) investment in reproductive off-spring, while their sterile worker off-spring gain by a 1:3 investement amond reproductive siblings, and that "... a measurement of hte ratio of investment is a measure of the relative power of the two parties..."
