Abstract
Energetic relationship of alfalfa pollinating bee Megachile femoral a Smith were studied in relation to Medicago saliva L., Trifolium alexandrium L. and Parkinsonia aculeata L. Field observations on time budget/energy intake were equated with physiological measurements on energy expenditure to infer daily energy balance. The energy balance varied from one day to another and crop to crop. In general, the foraging profitability was in the order: P . aculeata >M. saliva >T. alexandrium. P. aculeala appears to be competitively superior as forage crop.
